Let us know your thoughts as viewers vote off X Factor favourite Laura White and save Strictly Come Dancing flop John Sergeant

X Factor hot favourite Laura White was the fifth act to be voted off on Saturday night.

The 21-year-old lost a sing-off against Ruth Lorenzo with a performance of Somewhere Over The Rainbow on the Mariah Carey-themed show.

Judges Dannii Minogue, Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell all chose to save Lorenzo, with White's mentor Cheryl Cole the only one to vote to keep her in.

Earlier this week, Minogue tipped Laura, from Lancashire, to win this year's singing competition.

Before giving his verdict to White and Lorenzo, Cowell said: "First of all you were not the worst two singers tonight so I don't know what went wrong tonight, it was a joke.

"Both of you sang your hearts out. Whatever I say is going to be unpopular."

Sergeant - strictly awful?

Meanwhile, Heather Small became the seventh celebrity to leave Strictly Come Dancing despite winning praise for her improved performance in the tango.

The M People singer and her American partner Brian Fortuna had to take to the floor again after coming in the bottom two.

After the dance-off, the judges chose to save pop star Rachel Stevens and her partner Vincent Simone who were also ranked in the last two.

Furious viewers have hit out after John Sergeant's many fans voted to keep him in despite his worst performance yet.

His Cha Cha Cha won him just 12 points out of a possible 40 on Saturday night's show – the lowest of any contestant.

We'd love to know your thoughts on both these stories. Did Laura deserve to go? Did John Sergeant deserve to stay in? Who do you think were the weakest performers on both shows? Post your comments below.
