A robin braves the winter A robin braves the winter

Find out what's in store over the next five days with the latest forecast from GMTV's weather presenters

Many of us woke up to the first rain we've seen in a while on Friday morning. It certainly made things damp underfoot at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire this morning. Luckily the heavy showers held off until we'd finished broadcasting!

For central and eastern England the showers will continue on and off throughout the day, some heavy and thundery towards the Wash in particular. Temperatures here will peak at a chilly 6 or 7C in the breeze.

Elsewhere across England and Wales the showers should be few and far between, with Scotland and Northern Ireland enjoying a drier and brighter day. Highs further west 9 to 11C.

Most of the showers die away overnight to leave a frosty start to Saturday with England and Wales enjoying the lion's share of the sunshine. Cloudier skies for Northern Ireland and Scotland with a few showers feeding in on the northwesterly wind. Highs 8 to 10C and winds gusting up to 35mph across the far north and east of Scotland.

Sunday brings a greater risk of showers but I think most places will escape with a dry day. However, rain and sleet is likely to push into the far north of Scotland. Highs just 3C in Shetland but 8 to 11C elsewhere across the UK.

The new working week starts off fairly quiet, and now the easterly feed has been cut off temperatures will be just above the norm, possibly beating the 12.8C we saw back in January.

But from midweek onwards our high pressure looks set to give way to Atlantic lows, otherwise known as wet and windy!

Happy Mother's Day (especially to my mum Norma), Kirsty x
