Find out which film has been named Britain's favourite children's book adaptation

The Lord of the Rings films have been named Britain's favourite children's book adaptation - beating Harry Potter.

The adaptation of JK Rowling's hit books came second in the poll.

Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory took third place, followed by The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

They beat classics The Wizard of Oz (fifth), Mary Poppins (sixth) and The Railway Children (seventh).

The Snowman, the shortest film in the poll at just 26 minutes, took joint seventh place.

Another Dahl adaptation, Matilda, followed by Alice in Wonderland complete the top ten.

Fliss White, head of brand marketing at LOVEFiLM.com, which carried out the survey, said: "It's hard to recreate the magic of the page on the big screen but every title listed here has managed to do just that.

"Whether it's escapism, adventure or romance - all the children's book adaptations in this poll have a timeless appeal for kids and big kids."

The online DVD rental delivery service asked over 1,000 members to vote in the poll.
