Lose weight and not feel hungry. It sounds too good to be true, but add to that the bonus that you could also reduce your risk of heart disease and diabetes at the same time, and you have the fantastic promise being made to dieters by Australian scientists.
The Total Wellbeing Diet was developed by Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).
High-protein
Unlike the Atkins Diet, where carbohydrates are ditched completely and replaced with proteins and fat, the Total Wellbeing Diet is high-protein but low in fat, allowing carbohydrates.
It's claimed that there are also none of the side-effects associated with extreme high-protein diets such as an energy dip, headaches, constipation, bad breath or kidney stones.
Nor do you have to go hungry. On the Total Wellbeing Diet, lean, red meat (beef, veal or lamb) is eaten four times a week and fish or poultry every day for lunch.
But there the Atkins similarity ends – the plan also includes bread, fresh fruit and vegetables.
The diet plan has already been a huge success in Australia, selling more than 200,000 copies in less than two months.
The diet
On the diet you eat lean, red meat (beef, veal or lamb) four times a week, with fish or poultry every day for lunch.
- Typically, a daily diet plan will also include bread, fresh fruit and vegetables and even a glass of wine - to make up the 1,340 calories you are allowed to consume.
- If you reach your target weight after 12 weeks, you can progress to more flexible plan includes small amounts of carbohydrate such as sweet potato, bread, cereals and pasta
The CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet is now a 212 page, all colour book containing many additional specially-designed recipes to provide even more menu variety. It isn't available to buy until September 29th, but to order your copy click on the image of the book to the right.
