Cosmetic surgery for older men is on the increase - read the new findings

The number of men having cosmetic surgery over the age of 50 has risen more than 140% in the last five years, according to one firm.

Liposuction comes out top as the favourite procedure, helping to remove stubborn fat.

One in four (26%) of all liposuction operations carried out by The Harley Medical Group are now on men, the firm said.

Of operations carried out on men aged 50 and over, 24% involve liposuction to areas like the abdomen, chest and chin.

Other procedures

One in five (21%) operations are to remove eye bags (called blepharoplasty), facelifts account for 14% of procedures, nose jobs for 11% and tummy tucks for 8%.

Neck lifts add up to 7% of procedures on men over 50, brow lifts account for 5%, chin implants for 3% and ear surgery or pinning back (otoplasty) for 2%.

Liz Dale, director of The Harley Medical Group, said: "The idea of men letting themselves go with increased age is no longer accurate.

"We have seen a dramatic increase in the number of 50-something male patients coming into our clinics. Liposuction is the most popular procedure, accounting for 24% of procedures amongst this group."
