GM.TV chats exclusively to rising star David Jordan about his music, plans for the future and his friendship with Amy Winehouse...
Hi David, can you describe your music for us?
It's commercial pop music/ soul music/ rock music.
Can you tell us a bit about your new single?
I wrote 'Sun Goes Down' when I was 16. It's about the parties we used to have at Old Street Studios, and I wrote it about what I used to see at the parties.
Can you tell us about your album?
It's called 'Set The Mood' and was released in November. I wrote all the material myself.
Tell us about your Royal Variety Show performance - did you get a good response?
I'm the royal variety boy now! Everyone knows me as that! It's guaranteed that if I click onto my MySpace page someone will be talking about it! I can put money on it! It was fantastic. It was a long day but worth it.
Did you get to hang out with lots of celebs backstage?
Yeah. Because we were all in the same place, you kind of forget that everyone was like a household name, so you'd bump into people like Kate Thornton and your like "oh my god wow!".
Alot of people are comparing you to like Prince and Michael Jackson, how do you feel about that?
That's an incredible thing, as they are incredible entertainers. It's great to be put in the same league as them.
How long have you been writing songs for?
I wrote my first song when i was 11 and I 've been writing ever since then.
Are there any songs you are particularly proud of on the album?
'Only Living Soul', as that's really meaningful. 'Sun Goes Down' and 'Set The Mood' are also very important to me.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Anywhere and anyone. I often get it from people that I meet, people with a story to tell.
You have a drama school background, would you like to get into acting as well?
No, I don't think acting is really my field. I think doing what I'm doing now is more my thing.
Are you going to be doing any gigs around the UK soon?
Absolutely, but I don't want to give too much away as I could be supporting a big act from the US. But I can't give too much away just yet!
Is there anyone you would like to duet with?
There is, but most of them are no longer with us now! People like James Brown and Jimi Hendrix would have been great to collaborate with! But I would love to sing with Whitney Houston - I love her!
Is it true you are friends with Amy Winehouse?
We used to hang out when we were younger.
Do you worry about her?
Of course. It must be hard for her to get away from all the fakeness that she is surrounded by. I just pray for her.
Would you like to collaborate with her?
Maybe, when she's better.
