Meet the singer who's touring the world from the comfort of her flat
Unknown singer Sandi Thom is doing a world tour from her basement in Tooting, south London.
Sandi, whose real-world gigs used to pull in less than 200 people, is now commanding a global online audience of 60,000 people a night.
Small beginnings
It all started when she was playing a gig in rural west Wales and her car broke down. She joked about how much easier it would be to do a tour from home and just use a webcam. She says "A web tour is basically what you do when you have a lack of money and no car."
Sandi started her 21 day 'web tour' on Feb 22nd, and and thanks to the power of Internet, news of her free basement gigs spread through chat rooms and social networking sites until her audience exploded.
Her debut single "I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker' released last October but failed to make top 40. Now it's being re-released on 13th March and an album will follow in April this year.
Personal
Sandi Thom grew up in a small fishing village on the North East coast of Scotland called Banff; she spent her childhood years, in the neighbouring village of Macduff.
By the time she was 14 music was starting to become more and more important in her life and by the age of 18 she was studying at 'The Institute of Performing Arts' in Liverpool.
In October 2005 she released the much acclaimed EP 'I Wish I was A Punk Rocker' to critical acclaim, and she has recently completed her first ever solo album "Smile it Confuses People".
Watch her free gigs at www.sandithom.com at 9pm most evenings until March 16th. Use the link on this page for more details.
