PERSONAL:
Zac was born on 18 Oct 1987 in San Luis Obispo, California, USA and raised in Arroyo Grande with younger brother Dylan..
Father, David Efron, is an engineer at a power plant, and mother, Starla Baskett, is a former secretary from the same power plant.
Zac graduated from Arroyo Grande High School in June 2006 and was accepted into University of Southern California but deferred enrollment while he worked on film projects.
He then attended Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts, a community college located in Santa Maria, California.
His hobbies include golf, skiing, rock climbing, snowboarding and surfing. He plays the piano, is learning guitar and is fixing up two cars in his spare time - a Delorean and '65 Mustang convertible.
Zac got his first taste of the world of performing when he took singing lessons at age of 11.
Efron has been dating co star Vanessa Hudgens since the start of filming of High School Musical.
PROFESSIONAL:
Efron previously worked with 17 Again director Adam Shankman when he starred as the lovable Link Larkin in 2007's smash hit movie musical Hairspray. As part of the all-star cast, he shared in a Critics Choice Award for Best Acting Ensemble, the 2007 Hollywood Film Festival Award for Ensemble of the Year, and was honored with a Screen Actors Guild Award® nomination for Outstanding Motion Picture Cast. In addition, Efron won an MTV Movie Award for Breakthrough Performance.
Efron co-starred with Ben Chaplin and Claire Danes in Richard Linklaters Me and Orson Welles, an adaptation of the period coming-of-age novel by Robert Kaplow. Efron portrays a high school student who happens upon the yet-to-open Mercury Theatre and is then noticed by Orson Welles. The film premiered to rave reviews at the 2008 Toronto Film Festival.
In 2003, Efron starred in tv movie Miracle Run playing Steven Morgan, one of two autistic twins. For this performance, he was nominated for a Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a TV Movie, Mini-series or Special - Supporting Young Actor.
High School Musical! Efron first garnered attention in 2006 as the star of Kenny Ortegas High School Musical, for which he won the Teen Choice Award for Breakout Star playing basketball team captain Troy Bolton. High School Musical originated on the small screen in the Emmy Award-winning Disney Channel phenomenon High School Musical. He returned to the role of Troy in High School Musical 2, which broke cable TV records with 17.5 million viewers and Efron returned in High School Musical 3: Senior Year, which set a box office record for the highest grossing opening weekend for a musical.
Zac has also guest-starred in shows such as ER, The Guardian, CSI: Miami and NCIS.
