Dani Harmer Q&A

She's grown up from the days of Tracy Beaker and now Dani Harmer is turning from acting to singing. Read what she said when we asked her your questions

What do you enjoy the most: singing, acting or both?
I think I've got say both to be honest. I love acting, it's my first love. I never thought about doing music, but now that I am it's good fun.

How does it feel being a child star and everybody knowing your name from a young age?
It's good, it's a bit difficult growing up on screen, because most teenagers get to have spots and braces and bad hair days, but mine were on camera. It's a bit weird, being recognised, but it's nice at the same time and it's great to have fans.

When is your album being released?
The album will probably be released in September, but the single 'Free' is out on the 25^th. It's the theme tune to my show Dani's house and it's quite a catchy, rebellious tune.

How did you first decide that acting and singing was the right career choice for you?
I used to put on shows for my nana and granddad and I just enjoyed being the centre of attention to be honest and I think I always knew that's what I'd end up doing.

Is there going to be another Tracy Beaker series?
Maybe, maybe not. I can only say who knows?!

If you could choose to work with any actor or actress, who would it be?
Definitely Julie Walters, she's my idol and she's amazing. Everything she does is fantastic. And actor I'd have to say Johnny Depp because clearly he's very attractive and he's also a great actor as well.

How do you feel being compared to Miley Cyrus?
It's not bad, but I've heard it about a hundred times already so far, but it's not a bad comparison. I really think we're quite different. We're both actors and singers so I can see why people compare us.

Why did you decide to have McFly on your new album?
Just because I've met them a few times and they're really lovely and it was a good idea for my producer too.

I used to love watching you on Tracy Beaker and have seen every episode! Do you still keep in touch with the rest of the cast and have they gone onto bigger and better things like you have?
I keep in touch with quite a lot of the cast, but obviously it's quite difficult because everyone is off doing their own thing, but Darragh who played Crash in Tracy Beaker is in Dani's house with me so we're living together in Edinburgh so it's a real laugh to see him again. A couple are off doing theatre and films, so it's all good.

If you were offered to do a duet, who would you most like it to be with?
Oh that's so difficult. I would say Freddie Mercury, but obviously that's impossible. He was amazing though. I think Pink would be quite fun and she's awesome too.
