The eighties sensations are back and as rock 'n' roll as ever! Find out about family life for the band as Steve and Gary answer your questions and catch them on tour
GM.TV: We've been seeing you here a lot lately! GMTV must be your favourite show!
Steve and Gary: We all live together around the corner and we sit and watch GMTV religiously every morning! When we're not here, obviously!
Your Spandau questions
Tricia: Has anyone approached you to play 'Gold' for the opening of the London 2012 Olympics?
Gary: Not yet but we are waiting for an offer! That'd be amazing! Maybe there could be an adaptation of the verse lyric to suit the event!
Tony in Cambridge, USA: 'Once More' is a wonderful song. I'd love to hear it live. Do you foresee a reunion tour in the US?
Steve: We'd love to! But at the moment it's being tagged on as we're doing the UK tour now. We were going to Europe but had this marvellous offer from Universal to make an album here. So we've had to delay the European leg of the tour while we promote the album. We'll be on GMTV-equivalent shows all over Europe throughout November and December. In March we'll go back out there to play our live show, then on to Australia, then America.
Gary: Yeah, we'll certainly be in L.A and New York at some stage and Cambridge, of course! We're looking in to festivals over there too.
Terry in New Jersey, USA: Are you considering releasing your album in America?
Gary: The album won't just be on import – it will definitely be released there at some stage next year.
Vixie: I can't wait to see you at the O2! If you could perform your Spandau Ballet show anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Gary: The O2! It's in our home town! But after the O2, I'd say Madison Square Gardens.
Carol: Will there be a DVD of the live shows?
Steve: We're filming the O2 gig so there should be a DVD out at Christmas.
Lisa: So good to see you back together! How does it feel being back on the road and how are you coping now you're all 20 years older?
Gary: Playing live isn't tiring! But it's the drinking and staying up late that's tiring!
Steve: Yeah, you're buzzing after having come off stage, playing to 10,000 people! You know, great gig, fantastic, champagne comes out and you're up until 4am talking rubbish!
Julie Bush: When you have finished this tour, will you all be returning to what you were doing before you re-formed?
Steve: I don't want to think about that. At the moment this is all-consuming and I don't want to do anything else other than this and we're having so much fun doing it, so to think about it stopping is depressing.
Gary: Same for me – I'd rather not think about it.
Shelley: I went to the launch of 'Hadley's Gold Ale' in September in Manchester – are there any plans for a Spandau Ballet beer?
Steve: We've never seen this ale! He talks about it but we've never tasted it!
Gary: I don't think so! We prefer champagne to real ale! It's better for the waistline!
Margaret: Which song brings back the best memories for you? 'True' takes me back 20 years, when I was young, free and single!
Gary: 'Chant Number One' for me. It takes me back to messing around in Soho and being a young wick, clubbing and all that.
Steve: The same for me. I loved the clubs side of Spandau. And 'To Cut a Long Story Short' for the same reason. That, and the fact it was our first single - we all had it in front of us and it was all so exciting, wondering what was going to happen. The first time we heard it on the radio was amazing!
Gary: And when we do that one on stage, it brings back all those memories for us.
Craft Diva: When will your documentary be released?
Gary: We've been recording everything so far – all the comings together and the recording of the album. We have a wonderful director, Nick Morris, who's directing the documentary and the live video too, so he's compiling everything
Steve: Hopefully that should be out next year.
J Mawyer in York: What do your children think of you reforming the band?
Steve: They love it! My kids were born just after we split up. My eldest was around but most of our kids hadn't seen the band before. I'm very happy to say that my 18-year-old Jack is really proud! He's into thrash metal and he just loves it!
Gary: And my wife has waited 10 years to become a rock chick and now she's finally there! My little boy Milo's five and he's very impressed that his dad's in a band. He's coming to the first O2 gig. All the little ones of ours have those great big headphones to protect their ears – they look very cute! Actually, I'm lying – Milo's got Led Zeppelin pumping from his!
