Find out about Jason Donovan's next theatrical endeavour as he joins the cast of Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of The Worlds - Alive on Stage!

Singing and acting sensation, Jason Donovan, is continuing his hectic theatre schedule. He'll be to hanging up his heels in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, and to joining the cast of Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of The Worlds - Alive on Stage!

The show is set to be a huge hit and will tour major arenas around UK and Europe from November 2010-January 2011.

All star cast

Other stars singing and acting alongside Jason will be Atomic Kitten's Liz McClarnon and Moody Blues Justin Hayward.

The show also features:

  • 100 foot screen
  • Cutting edge CGI-animation
  • An 11-foot high Hologram of the narrator Richard Burton,
  • A 35 foot high animatronic Martian Fighting Machine firing Heat Rays at the audience,
  • Pyrotechnics and flames!

Background

The show is inspired by the HG Wells novel about an alien invasion on Earth.

A hugely popular story, it was most recently adapted into a film (2005) by Steven Spielberg, starring Tom Cruise.

In 1978, Jeff Wayne created an album inspired by the book. It sold over 15 million copies worldwide.

Character

Jason will be playing the role of The Artilleryman representing the British military.

He undergoes a mental change after the destruction caused by the Martians and forms large, unrealistic plans of building a new world underground, while becoming content to drink and play cards.

Fulfilled dreams

Excited about his role in the show, Jason said:

"As a big fan of Jeff Wayne I feel so proud to be part of The War of The Worlds.

"I grew up listening to this album so it's very special to be performing one of the main roles.

"The Artilleryman is a really key character and it lets me explore both the actor and singer within me. Everything about this show is spectacular.

"I cannot believe I will really be performing live on the same stage as an eleven foot high hologram of Richard Burton, giant screens, a Martian Fighting Machine, a band, an orchestra and of course Jeff. What a show!
