Find out why many parents are afraid to discipline their children, and tell us what you think
Research has shown that one in four parents don't discipline their children, because they're worried about upsetting them and prefer an 'easy life'.
A new survey reveals that a quarter of mums and dads don't want to be seen as 'unfair' or 'too strict', so they choose to ignore when their children are behaving badly.
Parents of the past
Many of us will remember our own parents raising us in a much stricter fashion, with discipline and good behaviour being a main priority.
But times have changed greatly.
Research found
- A third of parents admitted to avoiding keeping their child in check in public because they didn't want others to think they were being too harsh.
- More than half (55%) dish out less discipline than their own parents did.
- Three in ten parents admitted they were a 'pushover'.
But despite this, one in three fear that a lack of discipline could lead to their child getting into trouble in future.
