Liz Fraser teaches us the different ways we can get our kids to become more active

The government advise that children up to the age of 18 should try to do up to 60 minutes of activity a day

This doesn't have to be done all in one go but can be split up over the day - The key thing is their heart rate should be raised and they should feel warmer.

  • If you live in a town or city, don't overlook your local parks. They provide great space where kids can stretch their legs and let off steam
  • And why not check out the facilities provided by your local authority? The government has encouraged thousands of pools to allow under sixteen's swim for free. Just give your local leisure centre a call to find out if they offer any deals.

Now, England, Scotland and Wales all have initiatives to get kids more active.

The Sports Council for Wales run a scheme called five times sixty, Sport England runs 'sport unlimited' and Scotland offers active schools, all are programmes to get secondary school kids off the side lines and moving more

But remember, children follow by example so you need to get up off the sofa and join them!
