Busy lives can mean we don't spend as much time with our children as we'd like. So follow these pointers and learn how to maximise your time...

  • It may sound like the last thing you feel like doing, but why not set the breakfast table the night before? Then get everyone up fifteen minutes earlier so that you can sit down and enjoy breakfast together.
  • Getting all the school bags ready the night before also makes your morning routine a little less hectic!
  • But don't panic if you can't do this every day - we're not robots! Start by aiming to do it for three days a week and it should soon become a regular pattern!
  • If you feel work really is taking over your life try talking to your boss.
  • You may be able to negotiate more flexible hours, and then make up the time when it's suitable for your lifestyle.
  • And don't feel guilty about leaving nonessential chores to make time for your children.
  • Reading them a bedtime story is a great chance to bond so you can always hang the washing up tomorrow!
  • Remember that you are not working for fun - we all need to pay the bills so you're doing a good thing and you deserve credit for that.
