Homework and exams can be stressful for both children and parents. Follow these tips to keep stress at bay...

  • Homework can be quite overwhelming for children so make sure they know they can come to you for help and support.
  • For younger children, having a set homework time is a good way to start a routine and ensure they always get work done and handed in on time.
  • The younger they develop the habit the easier they'll find it to cope with as they get older and the demands increase.
  • Try and show an interest in what they are studying and if they don't understand anything encourage them to talk to their teacher
  • Kids as young as five are under pressure to sit endless tests. So try to make it easier on them and keep exam stress to a minimum.
  • Try to avoid making a big deal out of it. When they are young, play down the pressure of tests.
  • Make them into quizzes and make it clear that they are for the teacher and schools benefit not the children's.
  • On the day of the exam it's crucial they get enough sleep and eat a healthy breakfast to get both their body and brain ready for school!
