When people talk about being stressed they're usually referring to the fact that they feel under pressure to perform certain tasks or deliver results.

Stress affects us all from the jet-setting company director to the busy single mum and it's how we manage it that makes the difference. If it's well handled and balanced, a bit of stress can be very useful as it can make us more alert and better prepared to act quickly and effectively.

Too much unchecked stress, though, can leave us feeling demoralised, anxious or depressed. If this continues, excessive stress may increase the risk of developing illnesses such as heart disease or high blood pressure.
