Oruj Defoite joined GMTV in 2004 as a reporter. She is also the station's newsreader for the GMTV Newshour
Born 24th March 1973, Oruj attended the University of Surrey and gained a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry. After graduating she worked for her local newspaper, the 'Gwent Gazette', where she won a sponsorship to train at the paper's parent group based in Newcastle. In 1998 Oruj attended Cardiff University where she gained a post graduate diploma in Broadcast Journalism.
In 1999 Oruj worked as a bi-media reporter at the BBC's newsroom in Cambridge. After a year she left to go freelance. During this time she worked as a producer in the BBC newsroom, on BBC Radio Four's programme 'Today' and also for GMTV. In 2000 Oruj became a news producer for ITV News. After two years she moved to BBC Breakfast where she covered the lead up to the Oscars in Los Angeles.
In 2004 Oruj came back to GMTV as a full time reporter/producer. In the last year she has covered a variety of stories including the Pope's funeral in Rome.
Oruj currently lives in Holloway with her husband.
